Gloria Shows Ladd, died early Sunday morning, March 18, at The Trinity Oakes Care Center. She was 91 years old. Born in Lockhart, Alabama, she attended secretarial school and worked as an executive assistant at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. She was married to her husband, the late Edwin “Pete” Ladd Sr., for sixty-eight years before his passing. The family moved to Salisbury in 1953. Mrs. Ladd was a stalwart of the community as a member of Stallings Baptist Church and served many years as the elementary secretary at J.F. Hurley Elementary School. She was an excellent cook and was known in the community for her baking and canning. She also loved to read and in her later years to travel in the US. She is survived by two sons, Edwin V. Ladd Jr. and his wife Carol of Hilton Head Island S.C, and Michael Wayne Ladd and his wife Bonnie of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by two siblings: her sister Lydia Oswalt from Lehigh Acres, Florida, and her brother, Ned Shows of Summerville, SC. Memorial Services for family and friends will be held at Stallings Baptist Church on Friday, March 23, from 11:00 – 12:00 with service at 12:00 PM. Mrs. Ladd’s ashes will be interred next her beloved “Pete” in the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury.
