Earl Edward Harrison, 90, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center.
Born August 7, 1919 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Bessie Mae Propst Harrison. He was a 1937 graduate of Boyden High School. A 10 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in England. He also served on the USS Honolulu and was in charge of the Mess Hall at the Receiving Station in New York, during World War II. After also serving 12 years in the National Guard, he retired as Master Sergeant.
Mr. Harrison was a member of Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church for more than 50 years. In 1981, he retired from Fiber Industries. He was also a member of Andrew Jackson Lodge #576 AF and AM.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 55years, Jean Thompson Harrison; sisters, Juanita Harrison and Cleo Kenerly; brothers, Moyer Harrison, J. B. Harrison and Richard Harrison.
Survivors include his children, John Alan Harrison and Linda Harrison Aguilar of Salisbury; sister, Elvata McNeil of Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren, Alec Aguilar of Lacombe, LA, Crystal Hoots and John Joseph Harrison of Cleveland, NC, Michael Honeycutt of Columbus, GA; great-grandchildren, John Michael Hoots and Anthony Hoots of Yadkinville.
Visitation: 10-11:00 AM – Friday, March 5, 2010 at Lyerly Funeral Home.
Service: 11:00 AM – Friday in the James C. Lyerly Chapel. The Rev. Bill Little will officiate. Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery.
