Charles Cleveland Proctor, Sr. March 03, 2010
Charles Cleveland Proctor, Sr., 96, of Spencer, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born January 18, 1914 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Austea Hamrick Proctor and Balus Proctor.
Educated in the Cleveland County schools, Mr. Proctor owned and operated Charlie’s, Inc., which was a full service and recapping business.
Mr. Proctor was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and past Sunday School Superintendent.
A member of Spencer Masonic Lodge #543, where he was past master, member of the Oasis Shriners, served 3 terms on Spencer City Council, and was a member of The Knights of Pythias. He was also active in the Rowan County Democratic Party, where he served as past treasurer.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Frances McGinnis Proctor, who died May 31, 2003.
Survivors include his son, Charles C. Proctor, Jr. (Gerda) of Manassas, VA; daughter, Cynthia Russell (Lee) of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Charles Proctor, III (Rochell), Sandra P. Iames (Richard), Maria P. Price (Patrick), Paul Proctor (Sharon), Ted Proctor (Pam) and Kirkley Russell; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 2:00 PM – Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church Columbarium, 303 Fifth Street, Spencer. The Rev. Carrie Bishop will officiate.
Visitation: Following service in the church fellowship hall.
