Evelyn Jacobs Obituary

Evelyn Hedrick Lambe Jacobs, 91, of Salisbury, NC, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on March 9th, 2024.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Edward (Ed) H. Jacobs, on June 2nd,1987, Grandson Darrell Ray Stephens, on August 4th, 1987, and her daughter, Imogene (Jean) Jacobs Givens, on July 16th,2007. Her four Brothers, James, Fred, Paul, and Johnny Lambe were all from Salisbury, NC.

Evelyn was born in Rowan County on January 31, 1933, to the late John Malcolm Lambe and Mary Hedrick Lambe of Salisbury, NC.

Evelyn married her beloved husband, Edward (Ed) Henry Jacobs, on November 18, 1949. They were married for 38 years and had three children together.

Evelyn was a homemaker and worked for years outside in the flowers, yards, and gardens with her mother, Mary Lambe. She always helped her siblings and family or anyone who needed help in some way or another. She never told anyone “No”. She loved being outside and preferred to work outdoors, loved nature and animals. She had a pet fox named “slick” that she raised from a baby and had her for nine years. She also had three dogs she loved very much over the years: Tiger, Angel, and Prissy.

Evelyn was the family's matriarch and loved the plain and simple life. She loved being with her family, going to the river, looking for rocks, and having cookouts. Her favorite places to visit were Carolina and Kure Beach, staying at the Kure Cottage. She loved walking on the beach, looking for seashells and shark teeth. Also, she loved going to Grandfather Mountain, eating at Shatley Springs, riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and stopping along the creeks and waterfalls.

Evelyn and her family relocated to Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, for about ten years; her husband Ed worked for the railroad and transferred to Chattanooga. They moved back home to Salisbury in 1969.

Evelyn leaves behind her two sons, Louis and John (Patricia) Jacobs, granddaughter Laura (Ulises) Diaz and Grandson Jonathan Jacobs, all of Salisbury, great-grandchildren Jeremy (Bonnie) Smith, Jaleska and Stephen Diaz, and Lucy Shores, all of Salisbury, Desiree Rincon and fiancé Dennis Eames of Glendale, CA, and great-great-grandchildren Katelyn, Jeremy, Jacob, and Josiah Smith of Salisbury.

Evelyn was the eldest of eight children. Her surviving siblings are Ralph Lambe, Louise Nicholas, and Ruth (Jack) Fisher, all of Salisbury, NC. Another family member who loved and cared for her was ex-grandson-in-law Candelario Rincon of Salisbury, NC.

A special thank you to her granddaughter Laura Diaz, her great granddaughter-in- law Bonnie, her daughter Katelyn Smith, and her daughter-in-law Patricia Jacobs for moving in to care for Evelyn at home. A special thanks to Trellis Supportive Care. We could not have survived this without a team of great and kind people.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials and donations to be made in her honor to Trellis Supportive Care and Wildlife. Her granddaughter Laura is a state-licensed wildlife rescue and rehabilitation rehabber. All donations are greatly appreciated. Send to 225 Jacobs Lambe Ln, Salisbury, NC, 28146.

A family and friends gathering will be held at her home on Hackett St, March 14th, 2024, from 2 to 6 p.m. The Jacobs Family wishes their deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
