James (Jim) Albert Young, Sr., 77, of Salisbury passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Jim was born November 9, 1940 in Rowan County, the son of the late Ruby Pope and the late Boston Albert Young, Jr.

He graduated from Boyden High School in 1958 and served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion Post 342 (Hart Post) and retired from Local #30 Boilermakers.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue Kerr Young, who he married on January 31, 1969, son, James Young, Jr. (Tracie), daughter, Shane Y. Menius (Darren), and four grandchildren, Mackenzie and Corbin Menius, and Jace and Jax Young.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of The Laurels for their love and compassion shown to Mr. Young.

Visitation: 1:00 – 2:45 PM, Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.

Service: 3:00 PM, Friday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul’s Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.

Memorials: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Improvement or Cemetery Fund.
