Sgt. David Austin Dagenhart



Sgt. David Austin Dagenhart, age 95, went to his Lord and Maker on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

He was born April 29, 1922 in Alexander County, NC. He graduated from Mt. Ulla High School and retired from Flowers Industries after 33 years. David was a US Army veteran. He fought in five major battles in WWII and was awarded The Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and numerous other medals and commendations.

David was the son of James A. and Hattie Massey Dagenhart. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Ella Lentz Dagenhart. They were married on November 4, 1943 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC. Also preceeding him in death were his brothers Harold and J.B., his sisters Alma, Bernice, and Ezzie. He is survived by his sisters Rozelle Owen and Alice Godbey. He is also survived by his children Jan Dagenhart of Salisbury and David L. Dagenhart (Sheila) of Salisbury; his granddaughters Angie Jones of Jamestown and Jessica Jones of Ashboro; and four great grandchildren, Carmen and Ella Minton and David and Henry Lang.

Mr. Dagenhart was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed by all.

Visitation: 10:30 – 11:30 AM, Monday January, 15, 2018 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 8425 NC Highway 801, Mt. Ulla, 28125.

Service: Following the visitation, officiated by the Rev. Mark McRacken.

Burial: Salisbury National Cemetery at 1 PM with military honors accorded by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church
