Charles William "Bill" Marcum

Charles William “Bill” Marcum, caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather, 67, of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his residence.

Born in Louisville, KY on July 1, 1950, he was the son of the late Mary Agnes Kountz and Otto Ellery Marcum.  His early years were shaped by Holy Name Catholic Church in Louisville and his devout mother who served the priests at the rectory.  He served as an altar boy at 5:30 AM mass every day and, then, did his paper route.  As a teen, he loved to work on cars, and his love of cars continued throughout his life.

Bill was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving from July 24, 1968 until July 21, 1972 both at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and in Vietnam. Out of the service, worked for Louisville Cycle and moved to Chicago with the company. In 1990 he moved to Raleigh, where he worked for Cooper Kenworth for over 21 years until they were acquired by MHC.  Bill retired from MHC in August 2017.  Bill was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and earlier at St. Francis of Assisi in Raleigh, where he was married and Cecile and Gabrielle were baptized. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Marcum; aunt, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Kountz; brother-in-law, Vernon Christopher “Chris” Pinkston.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ashley Pinkston Marcum, whom he married on December 3, 2005; son, Robert Allen Marcum of Lancaster, PA; daughters, Erin Marie Marcum of Louisville, KY, Charlotte Cecile Marcum of Salisbury, Gabrielle Brynn Marcum of Salisbury; sister, Kathleen M. Reynolds of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Emma Rhea Marcum of Lancaster, PA and Shelby Jennifer Scott of Louisville, KY.

Visitation: 10:00-11:00 AM Monday, May 21, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 375 Lumen Christi Lane, Salisbury, NC 28147.

Service: 11:00 AM Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father John Eckert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
