Dorothy “Dot” Waggoner Helms Westmoreland, 87, of Salisbury passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at her residence.
Born March 5, 1931, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Marvin Waggoner and Edna Thompson Waggoner.
Mrs. Westmoreland was educated in Rowan County Schools. She retired from AT&T in 1989 and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. She loved her family and enjoyed working in her garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Mason Helms; sisters, Hazel W. Cook Hoffner and Betty W. Kistler; brothers, J. Cecil Waggoner and Luther Wayne Waggoner; first husband, Joseph L. Helms.
Survivors include her son, Joseph Randall “Randy” Helms of Salisbury; daughters, Gwyn Helms Burkett of Spartanburg, SC, Belinda Helms Johnson of Salisbury, Maria Helms Harris of Columbia, SC, ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 1:30-2:30 PM Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Building, 11020 NC Hwy 801, Mt. Ulla, NC 28125.
Service: 3:00 PM Saturday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Scott Swix officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
