Floyd John Walcher, 91, formerly of Salisbury, NC, passed away Monday, November 12, in Richmond, VA. Born January 6, 1927, in Houston, TX, he was the son of the late Ella Breitkreuz Walcher and John Walcher.
Floyd served in the US Navy for two years at the end of World War II, and graduated from the University of Houston in 1949. That same year he married Jo Ellen Davis in Houston, and began a long career in accounting for National Steel and National Aluminum. This career took him to jobs around the eastern U.S., and while raising four children, hobbies included boy scouts, boating and camping. He retired in Salisbury in 1989, and began more than two decades of volunteer service. As president of the Rowan County Concert Association for many years, he and his wife worked tirelessly to bring renowned musical groups to Salisbury. He was a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jo Ellen Walcher, who passed away in 2012.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Michael Walcher (Diane) of North Fort Myers, FL; daughters Donna Daily (Patrick) of Hickory, NC, Karen Van Sickle (Geoffrey) of Richmond, VA, and Kathleen Brooks (Douglas) of Jacksonville, FL; and seven beloved grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 3, 12:00 pm, at First Presbyterian Church, 308 W. Fisher St., Salisbury, NC. Dr. Randy Kirby will officiate. In a private service, Floyd will be inurned next to his wife at Salisbury National Cemetery.
