Griffin Scott Smoot, 71, of Salisbury passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 at his residence.
Born in Rowan County on August 21, 1947, he was the son of the late Ruth Wall Smoot and Edwin Scott Smoot.
Scott was a 1965 graduate of Boyden High School and attended Catawba College and Western Carolina University. He worked as a foreman for National Starch and Chemical before retiring after 30 years of service. He was a former member of First Baptist Church, Salisbury.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenny Dietz.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mitzi Daniel Smoot, whom he married on July 30, 1993; daughters, Elizabeth R. McCowan (Alex) of Rockwell and Catherine “Cassie” Bennett (Chris Jones) of Rockwell; step-children, Jessica Lynne Payne (Allen) of Salisbury and Houston Powers, Jr. (Heather Clawson) of Salisbury; sister, Cathy Smoot Dietz of Salisbury; grandchildren, Logan and Scarlett Jones; step-grandchildren, Chandler Blackwelder, Allie Payne, Trinity Payne and his fur-baby, Cowboy.
Memorial Service: 1:00 PM Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Landmark Church, 1910 Mooresville Rd, Salisbury, NC 28147 with the Rev. James Cook officiating.
Memorials may be made to Landmark Church or Rowan County Relay for Life.
