John Terry Harvey Buford Jr. – Nov 2, 1957 – Dec 15, 2018. Age, 61 (Spencer, NC)

John passed peacefully at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House with his family by his side after spending his last days surrounded by those who loved him. A true reflection of the life he lived and the love he shared with others.

Born in Salisbury, N.C. to Mrs. Billie Parker Alexander and Dr. John T.H. Buford, John was a Salisbury native who remained involved in the community throughout his life. He shared his love of trains with others by spending countless hours volunteering at the N.C. Transportation Museum. He was very active in his church, especially around Christmas time, when he would make a special appearance as Santa Clause. He could also be found cheering on his beloved Tar Heels all season long.

A graduate of Salisbury High School, John spent his career working for Lingle Associates and Vialarm Security.

John was a lover of people, water, and animals. It could be said that he was the “life of the party" and he even said that of himself.  He truly never met a person or animal he didn’t like and wasn’t ready to help. Even throughout his last year, with failing health, he would always redirect conversation to the concern of others with "How are YOU doing?"  John was always ready for an escape to the beach or, a fishing trip with friends. His sweet soul, vivacious personality and love of music and dancing will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

During John’s last year, his close friends became his refuge: they took him on fishing trips, he would go to their homes to visit, or stop into their work place to talk.  Even during his last week on earth, the room was filled with his friends and visitors.... as was true in all his life, there was never a dull moment.

John is survived by sister, Beth Buford and husband Carlos of Houston, TX; cousins Trace Stewart and husband Norman of Columbia, SC, John Todd Lingle and wife Darlene and Trena Tweed of Charlotte, NC as well as many close members of his “chosen family”.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kristine Hunter Buford, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Alexander and Dr. and Mrs. John T.H. Buford.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, December 22^nd at Spencer Presbyterian Church, 113 First Street, Spencer, NC.

A Celebration of life to follow in Salisbury.
