Robert Michael “Mike” Ludwig, 81, of Salisbury passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
Born in Rowan County on April 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Norma Vernelle Stirewalt and Richard Arven Ludwig.
A veteran of the US Air Force, Mike retired from Southern Railway after 44 years of service as a brakeman. He was Lutheran by faith and was a member of the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post. Mike looked forward to meeting his coworkers every Wednesday at Hendrix BBQ on W. Innes and enjoyed going to the beach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Ludwig and a brother, Richard “Pat” Ludwig.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma Malcolm Ludwig, whom he married on November 21, 1959; sons, Mark Ludwig of Belmont (Renee), David “Big David” Ludwig of Salisbury; grandchildren, Megan, Marlin, Michael and Madelyn Ludwig.
Service: 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144 with the Rev. Carroll Robinson officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA 22102 or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Amin, Dr. Yut, and Baptist Hospital for the care that Mike was given, the emergency personnel, the Salisbury Fire Dept. and also to Lyerly Funeral Home.
