Sammie Hunter, 84, of Kannapolis passed away Friday, December 28, 2018, at the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center.
Born in Greenview, WV on March 28, 1934, he was the son of the late Gertrude Elswick Hunter and Thomas Preston Hunter.
Sammie was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the 11th Airborne Division. He worked for many years as a truck driver for Akers Motor Lines and the last 30 years was the owner of the Wood Stripper Furniture Refinishing. He loved to camp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Baisden and great-granddaughter, Sophia Sain.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laura E. Hunter, whom he married on November 24, 1955; daughter, Sandra Sain (Wayne) of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Andrew Sain of Kannapolis, Josh Sain of Kannapolis, Will Sain of Concord; great-grandchildren, Grace Sain and Olivia Sain.
Visitation: 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, January 3, 2018 at Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Rd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Service: 2:00 PM Thursday at Charity Baptist Church with the Rev. R.J. Hammond officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Liberty Lane Hospice Unit at W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144.
