Virgie Gertrude Cline Dean, 99, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the Laurels of Salisbury. Virgie was born March 10, 1919, in Rowan County to the late Audie Mikeal Cline and the late James L. Cline.
Virgie graduated from Cleveland High School. She retired in 1982 from Rowan Memorial Hospital after 23 years. Virgie was the oldest member of Lebanon Lutheran Church in Cleveland, N.C., where she had served on the Altar Guild, as a Sunday school teacher, and in the choir. Virgie had never met a stranger. She loved to bake and cook, loved her flowers and gardening. She also loved to read and after retirement quilted over 200 quilts.
In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death on January 18, 1981, by her husband, James Harry Lee Dean, whom she married in 1937. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, James Keith Dean, sister Addie Cline Shaver, and brother Marion D. Cline.
Virgie is survived by her son, Randall Dean of Salisbury, daughter, Robin Ridenhour (Donald) of Salisbury, grandchildren Justin Ridenhour of Salisbury, Matthew Ridenhour (Jennifer) of Rockwell, great-grandchildren Madison Ridenhour and Brooklyn Ridenhour both of Rockwell, and special friend Betty Waller of Salisbury. She is also survived by a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Monday, July 9, 2018, from 10-10:45 AM at the Lebanon Lutheran Church, 1200 Thompson Road, Cleveland, N.C. 27103
Service: Monday, July 9, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Lebanon Lutheran Church, 1200 Thompson Road, Cleveland, N.C. 27103 with the Rev. Clarence Sifford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
