Ardie Russell “Russ” Hendrickson (76) passed away on April 1, 2026, at the Liberty Lane Hospice Salisbury VAMC. After a long battle with Parkinson’s, he had spent the last eight years in the care of the compassionate staff on 2B, Community Living Center at the W.G. (Bill) Heffner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC
Russ was born January 28, 1950, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, the son of Ardie Russell and Barbara Hendrickson.
He was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam. First in the infantry and later as a Sergeant, serving in the security guard detachment for special troops.
Russ loved classic muscle cars, building fast engines and especially his 1981 red Corvette. Having spent most of his career as an auto mechanic, he moved to night shift work when his daughter was born to help take care of her.
He was proceeded in death by his father, mother and stepfather, John Dufour and sister Jan Sedlock.
Survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Addie, stepson Micah Morrison (Cathy) and grandchildren, Winifred and Saul of Charlotte, NC. Niece Rikkianne VanKirk (Dave) and great-niece, Mia of San Antonio, Texas
A military burial/graveside service will be held on April 20, at 11 o’clock at the Salisbury National Cemetery Annex, located behind the W.G. (Bill) Heffner VA Medical Center.
Lyerly Funeral Services of Salisbury are in charge of his arrangements.
