Arthur "Glenn" Barber, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Novant Health Hospital in Salisbury after a month long stay there. He was born on December 3, 1940, in Boone Township to the late Arthur Glenn Barber, Sr. and the late Mary Lizzy Barber.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda K. Barber of 39 years, Stepson, Michael Rymer (wife Jennifer) of Salisbury, Mary Catherine Watson Poole and niece Regina Carol Watson of Linwood, niece Barbara Riedell of West Virginia, nephew Johnny Mercer (late wife Darlene) of Salisbury, Kim Mercer Hennin (husband Eric) of Charlotte, and a special niece and nephew, Jennifer and Andy Berkley of Salisbury. He was preceded in death by his sister Ruby Mercer and her late husband John.
He graduated from Woodleaf High School in 1959 and Appalachian State in 1963. In 1962 his college roommate was Curry Krider, Jr. of Spencer and they were long time friends until Curry's passing years ago. They hitch hiked to Washington State to work for Green Giant Pea and Corn and the World's Fair. Glenn also worked the Jersey Shore.
Glenn was a coach and teacher. He was always willing to help anyone. He loved God (he is of the Baptist faith), his wife Glenda to whom he was a very dedicated husband, his family and home, and sports. He collected sports cards where he setup at the Webb Road Flea Market for many years.
Visitation and Service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at West Innes Street Church of Christ, 2925 West Innes Street, Salisbury, NC 28144. Visitation will be at 10 am, funeral at 11 am, following a brief graveside service at Rowan Memorial Park. Jeff Cannon, Minister at West Innes Street Church of Christ, will be conducting the services.
