Betty (Starnes) Thompson

Betty Starnes Thompson, 92, of Trading Ford passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Novant Health Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

Born in Rowan County on September 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Kathleen Gobble Starnes and Sawyer V. Starnes.

Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Spencer High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Owen Thompson; brothers, Kenneth and Bert Starnes; sister, Jeanette Eller. Betty was the oldest of five children.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Deborah Thompson Kesler (Michael) and Terri Lynn Thompson; sister, Faye Merkt; granddaughter, Sarah Sweatt (Kevin); grandson, Lucas Kesler (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Badyn, Ty, Landon, and Corbin, all of Rowan County.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Trading Ford Baptist Church Cemetery, 3600 Long Ferry Rd, Salisbury, NC 28146, with the Rev. Mike Motley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
