Billy Ray "Bill" Turner passed away at the Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville on September 18, 2024, at the age of 85.
Billy was born on December 21, 1938, in Mitchell County, NC to the late John and Anna Turner. He was educated in the Rowan County Schools. Billy was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church, but due to declining health he frequently visited Corriher Heights Baptist Church and Landmark Church with his family.
Billy traveled to multiple countries around the world setting up machinery for Brad Ragan Tire Retreading. He enjoyed coaching his son’s Little League baseball teams, fishing, rabbit hunting, racing his own stock car, gardening, and sharing the vegetables he produced with friends and family. He loved summers spent camping with family. Billy was a family man who was a perfect example of how a husband, father, and grandfather should be. He was a dedicated grandfather who never missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren at their sporting events.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Aileen Yates Turner; his brother John Turner; his sisters Mary Jo Jones and Norma Brown; and his granddaughter Hannah Turner.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons Kevin Turner, Trent Turner (Gwyn Selvey), Brian Turner (Dodi), Billy Turner (Leigh Hill), and his stepson Carl Yates (Faye); his brother Nick Turner (Nancy); his sisters Shirley Yount, Betty Julian, Shelby Peterson, and Cathy Allen (Dale); his grandchildren Nicole Turner, Kasey Turner, Andrew Turner, April Payne (Chris), Hayley Turner, Brianna Hipp (Hunter), Parker Turner, Brock Turner, Dalton Turner(Spring), Canyon Turner, Ranger Turner, Teresa Yates, and Ronnie Yates; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 am-12:30 pm on Saturday September 21, 2024, at Corriher Heights Baptist Church, 1980 NC-153, China Grove, NC 28023. The service will be at 12:30 pm. A burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
