Carolyn (Wilson) Overcash

Carolyn Wilson Overcash, 73, of Coolemee, passed away on August 31, 2025 after a brief illness. 

During her last days, her faith was a strong witness to all those who came in contact with her.  Her trust in Christ was demonstrated through her peace with leaving this life much sooner than she had ever anticipated.  She had no bitterness with God. 

What a beautiful example to us all!  We will see you in heaven!

Carolyn was born on May 21, 1952 in Rowan County to the late Pauline (Polly) Wilson and Ray Wilson.  She graduated from South Rowan High School, class of 1970.

She retired from the retail sales industry.  During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She also enjoyed her pets – Rambo (parrot) and Ray-Ray (dog).  During this time, she avidly pursued the hobbies that she had loved her whole life:  reading, cooking, baking, organizing and crafting.  She always used these hobbies to bless others.

She dedicated much of her time to the American Legion Post 106 in Salisbury.  She helped prepare many meals for Legion meetings.  In her position as Poppy Chairwoman, she helped to raise awareness and funds to benefit veterans.  She loved to use her crafting skills to make poppy dolls, pins, and barrettes to sell. 

Carolyn greatly enjoyed cooking.  Hosting many holiday family dinners in her home and at various clubs over her life.  Her cake baking and decorating skills were well-known by family and friends.  She gifted many wedding cakes and loved making pound cakes and cobblers for gatherings.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years James A. Overcash; daughter Tammy Carol Coon; grandchildren Sarah Mitchell (Luke), and Jordan Coon; siblings Chiquita (Brent), Martie Wilson (Barbara), and Doreen Lloyd (Chuck); as well as many nieces and nephews.
