Charles Douglas Nettles, 65, of Woodleaf, NC died Monday, December 13, 2021, at Iredell Memorial Hospital with family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, JB and Mildred Douglass Nettles, stepmother Elizabeth Gray Nettles, and grandson Charlie Andrew Nettles.
He loved his job at McGuire Nuclear Station where he worked for 35 years. He was a NC 4-H leader for many years and an active leader in many homeschooling groups - often encouraging new families at conferences. He spent countless hours as a leader and speaker in The Gideons International. He was a member and deacon at Needmore Baptist Church where he helped his fellow members, made repairs, and taught Sunday School. Church members, family members, friends, and anyone feeling lonely were always welcome as he hosted a Thanksgiving feast each year complete with corny jokes, home made food, and a genuine thanks to God. He was deeply devoted to his family and to Jesus Christ in all he did.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Sarah Moore Nettles, his eight children: Brian (Katie) Nettles, John (Laura) Nettles, Carl (Kara) Nettles, Crystal Nettles, Ben Nettles, Carol (Caleb) Smith, Ian Nettles, Laura Nettles, his seven grandchildren, his brother, David (Anna) Nettles and many other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Needmore Baptist Church, 1620 Mt. Vernon Rd., Woodleaf, NC 27054 with the Rev. David Smith officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. The family requests that masks be worn at the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International at sendtheword.org or through the Salisbury North Camp, PO Box 576, Salisbury, NC 28145.
