Cortland (Corty) Lewis Ender of Salisbury, North Carolina, 80, passed away at home on January 8th, 2025, after a decades-long courageous battle against heart disease. Corty’s loving wife Kathryn Davis Ender was by his side.
Born in Hollywood CA, on June 15, 1944, to Bruce and Helen Ender, Corty grew up in Allenhurst, NJ, where he attended the Asbury Park Schools. Together with his elder brother Bruce, Corty joined the Navy in 1963. In 1967 after his service, he graduated Allenhurst Lineman School and went on to work for Jersey Central Power & Light Co. as a lineman, eventually becoming an electrician for local contractors.
Corty and Kathy married in 1987, and lived in Florida before moving to Salisbury, North Carolina. Corty and Kathy were active members of The Salisbury Elks Lodge 699 where Corty invested time and energy to the Veterans Programs. Additionally, Corty worked alongside Kathy for their shared dedication to animal welfare in the Humane Society of Rowan County HSRC, and in adopting and caring for animals under duress.
Corty was predeceased by his parents, his sister Joan E. Buerck, and his brother Bruce C. Ender.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Arlene Jannarone, brother Robert Ender, nieces and nephews, and Kathy’s brothers, and their wives and children, whom he loved like his own.
He will be greatly missed and remembered by his keen wit, strong will, positive attitude, kindness, friendliness, sense of humor and love of family, animals and life itself.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Salisbury Elks Lodge #699, 508 S Main St, Salisbury, NC 28144, from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
