David Gregory Waller, Sr.

MSGT David Gregory Waller Sr., 84, passed away peacefully at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury, NC on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. David was a veteran who served in the US Air Force for 22 years.

David was born August 21, 1938 to George and Cornelia Gregory Waller and graduated from Woodleaf High School before enlisting in the Air Force. David was a Master Sergeant at the time of his retirement in 1979. During his military career, David was stationed in Alaska, Florida, Ohio, Turkey, Maryland, and Germany. After retirement, David returned to Salisbury, NC and was employed at the Department of Veterans Affairs until 2005.

David was a member of First United Church of Christ, where he was active in all phases. He was a founding member of the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard and was very active in planning Native American Heritage Day.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Waller Carpenter; sisters, Jean Waller Dixon, Marie Waller Foster, Joy Waller Thies and brothers, George Waller and Henry Waller.

David is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara Earlywine Waller; sons, David (Becky) Waller Jr., Mark Waller; and daughter, Renee Waller. Step sons; Kevin (Merrie) Caldwell and Brian (Rebecca) Caldwell. Granddaughters; Jordan Waller, Brooke Waller, Madison Waller, Morgan Waller, Harley Dellinger, Jessica Rhoney, Kennedie Lindsay and Savanna Carpenter. Grandsons; Grant Waller and Christopher Lindsay and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM Thursday, January 19, 2023 at First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah St, Salisbury, NC 28144. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at First United Church of Christ with the Rev. Carol Hallman officiating. Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144, with military honors conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
