Donald William Clifford, 91, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at the VA Hospice in Salisbury, NC after an almost two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles Clifford and Marjorie Barnes Clifford, of Brockton, Massachusetts.
Don was an active 91-year old, former WWII US Marine and a Korean War Air Force veteran, serving in the 6147th Tactical Air Control Group- the “Mosquito Squadron”. He was a proud Bostonian, a Master Mason and 68-year member of the Masonic Lodge who loved life and showed us all how to live it. Don was a 1952 graduate of UMass and a 1957 graduate of Cornell University, where he earned a Masters Degree in Regional Planning. He worked in City Planning and was a member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Randal Charles Clifford.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn White Clifford, whom he married on August 18, 1956 and daughter, Cynthia Jean Clifford Quinlan.
Service: 2:00 PM Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Chapel at Trinity Oaks Independent Living, 728 Klumac Rd, Salisbury, NC 28144, with the Rev. Brenda Bynum officiating.
Burial: 1:00 PM Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Laureldale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA 19605.
