Edith Louise (Koontz) Barger

Edith Louise Koontz Barger, 95, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at her home. She was born in Davidson County on March 24, 1929, to the late Henry Clay Koontz and Amanda Cox Koontz. She was educated in the Davidson County Schools, and was a life-long member of Salem Lutheran Church.

A dedicated farmer’s wife, she was the perfect “Girl Mom”. She was a homemaker extraordinaire. There was nothing she couldn’t do, and do well. Edith was the perfect seamstress. She sewed clothes for five girls, knitted, crocheted, cross-stitched, and quilted. She was also an excellent cook who made homemade yeast rolls daily, then later sourdough bread to complement the vegetables she canned and froze from the garden.

Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband of seventy years Charles Thomas (Tom) Barger, two brothers, Hubert and Fred and a sister, Valeda. Edith and Tom’s committed marriage and the strong family they raised together continues to serve as a lasting example for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters Linda Howard (Lynn) of Mooresville, Wanda Bogle (Donnie) of Salisbury, Sharon Graham (Randy) of Salisbury, Cheryl Marshall (David) of Mooresville, and Ronnell Grubb (Jeff) of Lexington. She was adored by her twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm on Saturday November 9, 2024, at Salem Lutheran Church, 5080 Sherrills Ford Rd, Salisbury, NC 28147. The Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 with Rev. Ernie Shelton and Rev. Dawn Rister officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, or Hospice of Rowan County, 720 Grove St, Salisbury, NC 28144.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Kathy, Joyce, Janice, and Tracy, whose love and dedication were invaluable and made it possible to care for Mother at home.
