Edward Heavner Obituary

Ed was born April 5, 1947 in Lincolnton, North Carolina. He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, as well as Charlotte, North Carolina and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Ed spent most of his adult life working in the plastics industry. He began his career with Plastics Manufacturing, Incorporated in 1969, at the age of 22. His many years at PMI were some of the most rewarding years of his life. He often said that he never felt like it was a job, because he truly enjoyed going to work every day. Whether it was with co-workers, customers, or suppliers, he valued and appreciated the many relationships he developed through the years. He never forgot, and frequently acknowledged, the many lessons he learned from Ken Barbee, the founder of PMI.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved motorcycle racing, offshore fishing, golfing, and hunting. He loved the beauty and serenity of the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at his farm with his beloved dog, Izzie. He was also very proud of his classic car collection.

Ed enjoyed a simple, low-key lifestyle, and his family and friends were very important to him. He was always willing to help in any situation, and he never forgot the people in his life that helped him achieve his goals. He believed in hard work, honesty, loyalty, and always taught that you should give back more than what is required of you. His life was an example.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R. A. Heavner and Barbara B. Atherton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas E. Atherton and Stephen A. Atherton, as well as his beloved son, William James Heavner and grandson, Jamison Max Heavner.

Ed is survived by Sharon Heavner, his wife of 31 years; daughter Angela Heavner Wallace and son-in-law Gerald; daughter Alexandra Heavner and daughter-in-law Karen Heavner. He leaves behind five grandsons, Jason Elliott, Kevin Elliott, Jamie Crider, Bradley Blackwelder and Eli Heavner, and one granddaughter, Shelby Watts, as well as six great grandchildren. He is survived by one sister, Barbara Boler and two brothers, William Atherton, Lee Atherton and sister-in-law Debbie Atherton. Additionally, he is survived by three nieces, Heather Anderson, Sarah Atherton and Jennifer Bursey, as well two nephews, Kyle Atherton and Jared Boler.

The family will have a private interment at a later time.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made to Boger’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 1775 Flowes Store Road, East, Concord NC 28025 or Broadus Baptist Church, 59 Green Street, SW, Concord, NC 28027.
