Fred Vernon Yost

Fred Vernon Yost, 89, of Salisbury passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at his residence.

Born in Rowan County on May 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Archie C. Yost and Cora Safrit Yost.

Mr. Yost attended Faith High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving as a mechanical engineer from 1952-1954. He later worked as a supervisor with the Department of Transportation, retiring after 38 years of service. Mr. Yost attended Landmark Church. He was a jack of all trades and tractor enthusiast and enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking. At his former church, he was a Sunday school director and helped with Making a Difference and was known as “Grit Man”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Ervin Yost, who passed away on December 31, 1995. He was the last surviving of his five brothers: Elmer, Carlee, A.C., Marvin, and Gaither Yost.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kathy Lemly (Jimmy), Sue Waller (Bobby), and Lynne Henry (David), all of Salisbury; grandchildren, Darrell Lemly (Beth), Windy Nash (Jay), Seth Waller (Kristen), Coty Waller (Amanda), Trent Waller (Kassie), Avery Kepley, Bailey Kepley (Brandy Lloyd) and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 1:00-2:00 PM Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Landmark Church, 1910 Mooresville Rd., Salisbury, NC 28147.

Service: 2:00 PM Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Landmark Church with Pastor Mike Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Community Center Rd., Salisbury, NC 28144.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Landmark Church.
