Garland Ray Briggs passed away at a NC State Veteran’s Home on May 25, 2024, at the age of 91.
He was born on April 22, 1933, in Rowan County to the late Polly Lou Kluttz Briggs and William Thomas Briggs. He is a graduate of Mt. Ulla High School and worked as a Truck Driver and Farmer.
Garland had many hobbies. He loved music in every way, including singing, the guitar, and the mandolin. He often had weekly jam sessions. He was often found working on farm equipment and/or farming. Garland was a lifelong member of the Salem Lutheran Church. He was a kind gentleman who always had a smile and was thankful for everything in his life.
He was an Army cadre with an honorable discharge.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Clarence Albert Briggs, Tommy Briggs, and Alvin Briggs; and his sisters Thetis Sloop, Mary Ellen Earnhardt, and Celia Briggs Summit.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Gwendolyn King Briggs (Salisbury, NC); his brother Gerald and his wife Mary Lou (Salisbury, NC); his daughters Gwyn Richardson (Kernersville), Deborah Wagner and her husband Leonard (Efland, NC), and Tonya Anderson and her husband Matthew(Harrisburg, NC); as well as many grandchildren.
A visitation will occur on Monday June 3, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Salem Lutheran Church 5080 Sherrills Ford Road, Salisbury, NC 28147. The service will be at 2:00 pm, officiated will be Rev. Earnest Shelton. The burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Briggs Music Scholarship Fund.
