Gary Michael Blackwood, 71, of Kannapolis passed away on Monday April 5, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
He was born on March 4, 1950 in Rowan County to the late Iva Eller & Fred Lanier Blackwood Jr. He graduated from Davie County High School in 1968. He served in our Air Force for 23 years and was a Master Sergeant. He was an avid sports fan with Tarheels, Atlanta Braves & Miami Dolphins topping the charts but loved all sports whether watching or playing them. He was interested in military documentaries and loved his classic rock music. He was a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and National League of POW/MIA. A Proud moment for Gary, was when his son enlisted in The US Army. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son Andrew Blackwood of Concord NC, daughters Alicia Michele Blackwood House (Steven) of Cleveland NC, Stephanie Blackwood of Kannapolis NC, brothers Monte Blackwood of Cooleemee NC, Ronald Blackwood (Caryn) of Dallas TX, Alan Dale Blackwood (Susan) of John’s Island, SC, 5 grandchildren and many cousins and other family members.
A graveside service will be held at The Salisbury National Cemetery Friday April 23, 2021 at 11:00am with military honors presented by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
