George Maynard Edwards Jr.

George Maynard Edwards passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 78.

He was born on July 1, 1946, in Forsyth County to the late George Maynard Edwards Sr. and Iona Gertrude Brewer Edwards.

George graduated from Iredell County School and later graduated from Central Piedmont Community College with A.A.S. Degree in Physical Therapy. He loves boating, deep-sea fishing, vacationing at the beach and mountains, and cruising. George was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart (2) and a Bronze Star.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Bob Campbell.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jan Lyerly Edwards (married on March 9, 1985); his brother Larry Edwards (wife Ellen) of San Diego, CA; his sister-in-law Carol Campbell his brothers-in-law Craig Lyerly (and wife Deb) and Mark Lyerly; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Military Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to the Wounded Warriors Project (PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675) and the Wreaths Across America (PO Box 249, Columbia Falls, ME 04623).
