George Irving Foil

George Irving Foil, 85, of Salisbury passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the W. G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center.

Born in Rowan County on March 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Ethel Alice Aldredge Foil and Brown Alexander Foil.

Mr. Foil was a 1958 graduate of Boyden High School. He served in the US Army for several years, then was called back into service during the Berlin Crisis. His work history started with Owens Illinois, then he worked for many years at Fiber Industries/Celanese. Mr. Foil had his home church of Haven Lutheran Church, then he became a member of Salem Lutheran Church. Family was very important to him. His yearly family vacation to Anna Maria Island, Florida was well looked forward to by everyone. He loved fishing with son-in-laws and grandchildren. His favorite sports teams were any of the grandchildren’s teams. He made a point to meet with his graduating class to eat breakfast every month. He enjoyed playing cards - poker of different kinds was a wonderful pastime for him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Waller Foil; brothers, Thomas Alexander Foil and Brown Edward Foil; sister, Alice Foil Page.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Margaret Foil Payne (Joe) of Statesville and Melinda Foil Burns (Tim) of Salisbury; brothers, Bobby Lee Foil and Franklin Delano Foil; sister, Nellie Foil Loflin; grandchildren, Michael Payne, John Payne, Zeb Burns, Allie Burns, and Kayla Burns.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Rowan Memorial Park Chapel in the Pines, 4125 Franklin Community Center Rd, Salisbury, NC 28144. Service will begin at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Carroll Robinson officiating. Entombment will follow in Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery.
