George Willix, Sr., 78, of Andrews, NC, passed away on August 16, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born to Horace and Mini Willix in Alexandria Bay, New York, George graduated from Alexandria Central High School and went on to serve his country proudly as a United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran. His professional life was dedicated to management and administration, working for Greyhound Bus Lines and Universal Forest Products.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Willix. He is survived by his sons, George Willix, Jr. and Troy Willix (Jeanna); Bonus Daughter, Sandy Moreau Willix and grandsons Sean Willix (Gabby), Jason Willix (Sierra), Troy Willix, Jr. (Denae), and Joseph Willix (Taylor); and granddaughter, Catie Lazaro. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Adeline and Declan, along with bonus great-grandchildren, Maicyn and Carter.
Throughout his life, George was known for his selflessness and dedication to helping others. While living in Georgia, he volunteered with the Emmaus Community, Turin Church, and Lighthouse Church. In Andrews, NC, he was an active member of Andrews United Methodist Church. During his retirement, George continued to serve his community by volunteering, feeding the homeless, building ramps, and assisting wherever there was a need. His generous spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
In 2021, George and his son, Troy, purchased and remodeled a cabin in Granny Squirrel, and during that time, George found his dream cabin at the top of the mountain. It quickly became his sanctuary, and he cherished hosting friends while taking in the breathtaking sunsets from his deck. He was proud to serve as the HOA President of Granny Squirrel, a community he dearly loved.
George’s legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to live on through his family and friends. We are comforted in knowing that he has reached his heavenly home, greeted with the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." You will be deeply missed, but your lessons and love will remain with us forever.
