Gerald (“Jerry”) L. Alligood, beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, passed away at his home with family at his side on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Jerry was born September 11, 1938 in Thomasville, Georgia to the late Ellis Lee (“E.L.”) and Evelyn Lightfoot Alligood. He graduated from Thomasville High School in Thomasville, Georgia where he met the love of his life Yvonne Tillman Alligood to whom he has been married over sixty-five years.
Jerry’s proudest achievement is he and Yvonne raising their four children together. His leadership and lessons for life will continue to guide them as they carry their memories of him in their hearts.
Jerry is most known by others for his business success and leadership as owner/operator for thirty-three years of Jerry’s Shell Automotive Service Center (formerly Jerry’s Texaco Service and Tire Mart) with his family working alongside him. Jerry loved fishing with friends and family every chance he got and working in his garden. He served in the United States Army National Guard and in leadership roles with the Salisbury Kiwanis Club and First Baptist Church of Salisbury.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brother Rodney Alligood. Survivors include his wife Yvonne Alligood, sons Travis Alligood (Cynthia), Todd Alligood (Lisa), Cale Alligood (Tricia), daughter Christine Alligood, grandchildren Michael Alligood, Savanna Harvey (Jake), Bryson Alligood (fiancée Landace) and Kellsie Alligood, brother Terry Alligood (Nan) and sister Diane Davis (Charlie) along with cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
The family will receive visitors at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday February 1, 2024, with celebration of life to follow at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 223 North Fulton Street, Salisbury, North Carolina 28144. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org) or Novant Hospice, General Hospice Fund, 1229 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, North Carolina 28144.
