Glenn “June Bug” Hester completed his final watch at precisely 2:30AM on Saturday, August 22nd 2020 and entered into eternal glory while surrounded by his family.
He was born the son of Thedford Yates Hester, Senior and Louine “Granny” Hester, on April 19, 1951 in Lumberton, N.C. Glenn was always fond of the uniform and discipline that is associated with the military, but already having a husband and son who served in the U.S. Navy, his mother convinced her baby to pursue another career. So instead, after graduating from UNC Pembroke, he joined the NC State Highway Patrol and moved to Rowan County in 1975. He met his wife Daryl Grubb, and they were married in October of 1987, which was also the same year he started his auction company. If you asked him, Glenn would not hesitate to tell you that his proudest accomplishments in life were raising his two children, Allie and Thomas, and seeing their successes. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing (both at the coast and local farm ponds), trading, and collecting. In the last couple of years, Glenn spent a large portion of his time restoring a set of mini dirt-bikes dating from the 60’s. During the entirety of his 69 years, he lived every day to serve others and help them know the love of Jesus Christ. People knew Glenn in many different capacities: Trooper, Auctioneer, trader, husband, father; but everyone described him as a kind person, great man and incredible friend. He will be most remembered for his warm smile, loving embrace and his uncanny ability to make you feel like the most special person in the room.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Thedford Yates Hester Senior, and his mother, Louine “Granny” Hester of Lumberton NC.
His legacy will live on through his wife Daryl Grubb Hester of Salisbury, his daughter Allie Hester of Winston-Salem, and his son Thomas and fiancé Alex Hester of Charlotte. Left with years of fond memories are his brother Thedford Yates “T.Y” Hester Jr. and wife Diane Hester of Lumberton, brother-in-law Jim Grubb of Salisbury, mother and father-in law Dale and Betty Grubb of Salisbury. Glenn also had an abundance of nieces and nephews who will share in his memory.
Although he shied away from being the center of attention, the family plans to hold a celebration of life at 4:00PM on Sunday, August 30, at Salem Lutheran Church Outdoor Worship Center, 5080 Sherrills Ford Road, Salisbury, NC 28147. Pastor Dawn Rister will be the officiant and honors will be conducted by the NC Highway Patrol Honor Guard. Following the celebration of life service, Glenn will be placed in the Salem Lutheran Church Columbarium, where he was a member.
The family kindly requests memorials to honor Glenn be made to Salem Lutheran Church Building Fund, 5080 Sherrills Ford Road, Salisbury, NC 28147. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking you to share your favorite memory of Glenn and to also send these to Salem Lutheran Church.
