Herman Lemley Obituary

On July 9, 2021, after 91 years of incredible LIFE, Herman Lemley “graduated to glory” at the home he shared with his daughter & family in Winter Haven, FL. He was born in Salisbury, NC in 1930, was the youngest of 6 children, & married the love of his life in 1950 before heading out to proudly served his country in the US Army.

Herman loved his wife & children above anything else & worked tirelessly to ensure his family always had more than they needed. He had a garden that rivaled Eden & a yard that belonged on HGTV.

He was an active member at Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwell for 65 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher & deacon, always greeting everyone when they arrived with a warm handshake & that million-dollar smile. He loved volunteering in the kitchen for men’s prayer breakfast & the Fall Festival, because Herman believed that serving others was one of the best ways he could serve his Lord.

For 50 years, everyone in Salisbury would come to see him at Sam’s Car Wash, where Herman was the senior manager. He led his employees with integrity, kindness, generosity, excellence & by example.

Herman lived his life in such a way that inspired those around him to live with integrity, faith & generosity. He was one of the few people who always left you better & happier than when he arrived.

Herman Lemley is preceded in death by the love of his life for 59 years, Jennie Kesler Lemley, & “his boy” Perry Herman Lemley.

He is survived by his daughter Ginger McNally & son in law Dave McNally of Winter Haven FL, where Herman lived from 2012 until his relocation to Heaven.

Also missing him is his granddaughter Janette McNally of Winter Haven, FL granddaughter Jennifer McNally-Burks & Husband Michael Burks of Odessa Tx, & his 3 great grandchildren Ashton, Jack & Katie.

The family will receive friends at 10:00am on Friday, July 16, at Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwell, NC, followed by Herman’s “graduation to glory” celebration at 11:00am, led by Dr. David Fulp. We will conclude at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, immediately following the service. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
