Iona "Kay" (Turman) Smith

Iona “Kay” Turman Smith, 84, of Salisbury passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Born in Rowan County on August 6, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Mabel Mae Goodman and Jay Lee Turman.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Mt. Ulla High School and had a variety of jobs, such as seamstress, movie add in, bus driver, and then retired as a CNA from the VA Medical Center. She attended Carmel Baptist Church. She enjoyed caring for her family, that was her top priority. Mrs. Smith enjoyed writing poetry and songs, camping, traveling, cooking and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Eligh Smith; brother, Jay Lee Turman, Jr.; sister, Marlene Hinceman.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Chris Smith (Jennifer Dawson) and Craig Smith (Kathy); daughter, Cindy Isenhour (Berry); brother, Delane Turman (Susan); sister, Sherry Towell; sister-in-law, Gay Turman; grandchildren, Brittany Draekul, Jonathan Isenhour, Coleton Smith, Kylie Smith, and Kyle Isenhour; great-grandchildren, Ember Draekul and Ian Isenhour.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 PM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Carmel Baptist Church, 2100 Mooresville Rd, Salisbury, NC 28147. Service will begin at 1:30 PM with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Community Center Rd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
