James Howard Overcash, Jr., 72, of Salisbury went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, January 10, 2021, still turning wrenches.
James was a 1968 graduate of South Rowan High School and worked for Cone Mills of Salisbury for 25 years as a mechanic. He also worked at Outdoor Power Equipment for 10 years, then retired from there and worked part time for Eddleman’s Outdoor in China Grove and at his residence. He was happiest when he was out in his garage turning his wrenches, working on hotrods. He enjoyed drag racing in his early days and he loved shooting pool and playing cards. He loved being in the garage with his best friend Duncan. James was a loving husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Moore Overcash, whom he married in 1987; sons, Todd Overcash (Tina) of Mooresville, Scott Overcash (Traci) of Salisbury, and Bobby Overcash (Blanca) of Statesville; sisters, Donna Berry (Bobby) of Jacksonville, FL, Diane Hodge (Leonard) of Jacksonville, FL, Joan Smith (Edward) of China Grove, Polly Johnson (Leonard) of Kannapolis, Kay Hendrickson of Salisbury, and Lydia Barbee (David) of Salisbury; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, many, many nieces and nephews and his best friend Duncan.
Visitation: 12:00-1:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Rodgers Park Baptist Church, 309 E. 24th St., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Service: 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Rodgers Park Baptist Church with Pastor Joel Ervin officiating.
Burial: 3:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Community Center Rd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
