James Thurman Davis was born April 12, 1939 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 15, 2026.
Thurman was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been a resident of the NC State Veteran’s Home since May 13, 2025. He was the first born son of Thurman Paul Davis and Irene Flowers Davis.
Thurman is survived by one daughter, Donna Snyder and husband Tom; two brothers: Jerry Rufus Davis and wife Brenda, Charles Earl Davis and wife Pat; four nephews: Alan Davis and wife Millie, Jonathan Davis and wife Suzy, Daniel Davis, and Ishmael Davis; one niece, Alana Eryson and husband Buster; two great nieces and three great nephews; one very special friend: Shirley Bollinger.
Thurman was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Bessemer City, NC. Before his retirement, Thurman worked as a tool and die maker at Wix Corporation in Gastonia, NC. After retirement, he greatly enjoyed his woodworking hobby of building swings, rocking chairs, and other outdoor furniture as well as sitting on his front porch with his two cats.
We, the family of Thurman Davis, want to thank the staff of the NC State Veteran’s Home for their excellent health care, as well as their sincere love and kindness during his eight months there. We also greatly appreciate the team of Pruitt Health Hospice and Palliative Care.
A service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144, with military honors conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
