James "Jim" Blackwood Obituary

James L. (Jim) Blackwood, 70, a cherished loving husband, devoted father, friend and beloved member of the Salisbury community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Novant Hospital with his beloved wife, Deb by his side. Born in Fountain Hill, Jim was the son of the late John Jr and Jeanette (Laubach) Blackwood.

Jim's journey through life was marked by service, dedication and a deep love for his family and community. He graduated from Southern Lehigh High School, where he excelled not only academically but also on the football field. Following his graduation, Jim joined the Navy in 1973 and later pursued his engineering degree at LCCC. His Steadfast dedication led him to a successful career, initially at Curtiss Wright in NJ, before relocating to NC in 2012.

In NC, Jim found his professional home at ABB, where he began his tenure as a line operator and later advanced to the role of Assoc. Adm. Technician in the lab at Southwire following an accompany acquisition. Jim's impact extended far beyond his professional endeavors; he was known for his kindness and integrity touching the lives of many with his gentle fun spirit.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Jim was a compassionate individual who dedicated his tune to volunteer work. From 2004 to 2012, he volunteered at the Celtic Festival in Bethlehem, PA, bringing joy and creativity to the operations committee alongside his late brother John. His passion for helping others extended to his involvement as a volunteer puppy raiser for The Guide dog Foundation/Amereica's VetDog. Jim served as a puppy raiser from 2012 until his passing, he helped raise at least 14 puppies during this time. Jim's love for training these dogs and supporting those in need was a true reflection of his kind and generous spirit.

An avid sports fan, Jim found joy in following teams like the Eagles, Phillies and Falcons. His enthusiasm for racing, particularly NASCAR was evident in his involvement with a dirt car for his favorite NASCSR drive. Jim also had a talent for cooking and generously shared his culinary creations with friends and family, leaving a lasting impression with his delicious dishes.

James (Jim) is preceded in death by his Parents: John Jr and Jennette Blackwood and his Brothers: John Blackwood III and Jesse L. Blackwood. And his cherished first guide dog Jim trained TD. Jim missed TD so very much and now they are together again.

Jim is Survived by his loving wife, Deborah of Salisbury, Son: Jason and Tracey Blackwood of Jim Thorpe, Stepson: John Brittain of Charlotte, NC.,

Brothers: Joel and Kristine Blackwood of Lehighton, PA, Jay and Zai of Charlotte, NC and Sister; Jane and John Stein of Bethlehem, PA. Grandchildren: Sydney and Owen Blackwood and many nieces and nephews.

The legacy of Jim lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. His memory will be cherished, and his kindness and warmth will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the community he emiched. We all have a Guardian Angel watching over us!

Service: Deb is honoring Jim's wishes. Jim did not want a service. Instead, Jim requested BBQ gatherings in NC and PA, avoiding unnecessary travel for family and friends. These events will prioritize sharing good food, fond memories and raising a glass in his memory. Yes, Scotch will be involved, that is a MUST for his Celtic Heritage, (kilts will be optional) The dates will be shared when the weather is more predictable, and household affairs are order.

In Liew of flowers, please donate to Guide Dog Foundation/America's VetDog in Jim's memory. Jim was an active Raiser for almost 15 years, and he was always so proud of all those pups!!                     www.guidedog.org       www.Vetdog.org
