John Hartsell Obituary

With a great sense of gratitude and love for the life of a remarkable man, the family of John “Harry” Hartsell announce his passing. Harry departed this world on June 5th, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on October 8th, 1939, in Rowan County, Harry was the son of Billy Love Hartsell and Hazel Atwell Hartsell.

Harry's tireless work ethic began on the family farm and continued throughout his career as an oil truck driver for Home Oil and Knight Oil Company. He took great pride in his work, ensuring families stayed warm, proving his dedication to serving others.

On March 28th, 1958, Harry married Patricia Kurfees Hartsell. Their 66-year marriage was a testament to their enduring love and devotion. Together, they built a family filled with cherished memories.

A man of his word, Harry was known for his integrity and reliability. He was a selfless human being, always putting others before himself. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in sitting on the porch, engaging in conversations, sharing stories, and bringing smiles to those who needed them most.

Harry is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, Tony Hartsell (wife Tricia); his daughter, Tonya Hughes (husband Mike); his grandchildren, Lindsea Scalzo, Hillary Hartsell, and Chase Hartsell; and his great-grandchildren, Clara and Willa Scalzo. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Alesia Hartsell, and his parents, Billy and Hazel Hartsell.

In celebrating Harry’s life, we remember that he made the world a better place through his kindness and unwavering commitment to his family and friends. Harry's legacy of love, dedication, and integrity will be forever cherished by his loved ones.

May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
