John Robert Moore

John Robert Moore, age 93, of Salisbury NC 28146. Born June 23, 1931 in East Chicago, Indiana. He passed away at the VA Hospital, Salisbury, NC

November 19, 2024

John was known to most as Bob, although in his younger years, he was often called Red because of his handsome wavy red hair. He was a loving family man, always willing to help everyone. Bob was quick to quip a clever joke or to sing a happy song, remarkably on key! Strong and athletic, he made a hole-in-one on the golf course in 1996 and again in 2021. Once, he helped a stranger and years later was shocked to learn he had been remembered in the man’s will. 

The love of Bob’s life was his beautiful wife, Jacqueline. Married in 1958, they would have celebrated their 66th anniversary on Nov. 29, 2024. Bob also adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. If anyone in the family had a ballgame, recital or celebration, Bob was there to congratulate and to support. He was a true friend to many and was popular and beloved by all.

It has been said that some people never meet a stranger and that is how it was with Bob. Charismatic and friendly, Bob instantly connected with people and drew them in with his genuine warmth. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Jensen Moore, his father Arthur Raymond Moore, his sisters, Helen Slivko and Joyce Constant, and his nephew, Michael Slivko.

Bob began his education at Marktown Elementary –  East Chicago, Indiana, and graduated from  East Chicago Roosevelt High School – East Chicago, Indiana. He also attended college at Indiana University Northwest.

While in high school, Bob was a Lab Assistant at Inland Steel Lab. Bob also worked at Burroughs Corp as a Technician, as well as at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, LTV Steel, as a Supervisor of the Data Processing division.

Bob's hobbies included Golf, Senior Games, Poker Club, Senior Democrats.

Bob served in the United States Air Force –  Airman First Class, January 1952 - January, 1956 during the Korean War.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Joyce Moore of Salisbury NC. Son John Moore (Sonja) of Raleigh NC, Daughter Marsha Black (Sid Robinson) of Jonesville SC.

Grandchildren, Cassidy Pilkington (Taylor Pilkington) of Youngsville, NC, Jackson Moore (Melissa Moore) of Raleigh, NC, Brandon Simons of Sherrill’s Ford, NC, Hillary Simons of Cary, NC.

Great-grandchildren, McKenzie Pilkington, Rory Pilkington, Elsie Moore, and James Moore.

Nephews, John Constant (Lori), and Bill Slivko (Lorna).

A Graveside service will be held on Wed. Dec. 11 from 1 - 1:30 PM at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard Salisbury, NC 28144. 

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the American Heart Association.
