John Ordell Thomen

John Ordell Thomen passed away at his home on February 19, 2025, at the age of 90.

He was born on January 29, 1935, in Washington, DC to the late Harold Thomen and Florence Basim.

John went to a junior college in Washington, DC and then to Catawba College. He was a manager with a unique style, and dearly loved Salisbury. John was a member of the Trading Ford Baptist Church. He loved to read and bird watch. He had the gift to hear a bird and know the type of bird it was by the sound.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Dolores Dorsett Thomen; son Gordon Thomen (Cathie) of Fairfield Township, Ohio; daughters Carol Scherer (Shirley Smith) of Brownwood, TX and Juliet Rowell (Franklin) of Irvington, AL; grandchildren Freeman Northcutt, Michael Thomen, and Carla Erkkinen; and great grandchildren Tyler Northcutt, Greigh Northcutt, Zyana Northcutt, Elliot Erkkinen, and Henri Erkkinen.

A visitation will be held 1:00-1:45 pm on Monday February 24, 2025, at Trading Ford Baptist Church, 3600 Long Ferry Rd, Salisbury, NC 28146. The service will be at 2:00 pm at the church, officiated by Rev. Mike Motley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
