Josephine Monroe Obituary

Josephine (Jodie) Beck Monroe died August 23, 2024. She was born on July 14, 1923 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Jesse O. and Anna Ness Beck, was graduated from Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio, where she met Paul E. Monroe, Jr., a Lutheran Pastor, who preceded her in death in 1989. They lived where Pastor Monroe served churches in Washington, D. C., Newberry, S. C., Nashville, Tenn., and High Point, N. C.

Mrs. Monroe taught as a Parent Trainer for 17 years at the High Point Preschool Enrichment Center for Special Children.

Her life centered around her family, church, and volunteer services.  Dear friends were so special to her in every phase of her life.  She loved being a pastor’s wife and always felt that her husband was a special shepherd of his flocks and that, as parents, they were truly blessed by their four children and all grands.  She also loved the 50 summers without missing one when the family gathered for fun and bonding at Holden Beach, N. C. 

She is survived by her daughters: Lynn Bolick (Arthur) of Salisbury, N. C.; Marcia Lyle (Luther) of Walhalla, S. C.; Paula McAlister (Mac) of Hanna, S. C.; and son Jonathan Beck Monroe (Alfonsina) of Ithaca, N. Y.; nine grandchildren.

Grandchildren are Bradley Bolick (Wendy) of Davidson, N. C.; John Paul Bolick (Laura) of Weaverville, N. C.; Stuart Lyle, Marjorie Conaway (Paul) and Meredith Lacour (Drew) of Walhalla, S. C.; Caroline McAlister of Hartsville, S. C. and Logan MacAlister (Lee) of Mount Pleasant, S. C.; Gabe Monroe (Shelley) of Sacramento, Calif. and Holly Lash Parker (Marshall) of Hugar, S. C.  Great-Grandchildren are Alyssa and Caden Bolick, Holden and Christian Bolick, Charlotte and Lorelei Conaway, Peyton, Grey, and Alexander MacAlister, Jack Lacour, and Dylan Parker. Also surviving are a nephew and two nieces. 

Private Graveside Rites will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Gastonia, N. C.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church.
