Katherine (Eller) Wagner

Katherine Eller Wagner, 92, passed away peacefully at The Laurels of Salisbury on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, where she had been a resident for the past 3 ½ years. Our beloved “Kat” finally just gave up after dealing with the last ten months of COVID loneliness and isolation.

She was the ninth child, out of ten, born to the late Hilbert and Mattie Eller on June 26, 1928. Katherine married her high school sweetheart, Charlie Wagner, in 1947. She was left to raise their three young children after he passed in 1959. Kat learned how to be strong and very determined.

Katherine loved her family and friends. We were spoiled by her delicious baking and cooking – it was impossible to forget any of Kat’s holiday feasts! Her hobbies included vegetable gardening, quilting, and dancing. Kat had the knack of writing letters that could turn into pages of a story.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her older siblings and oldest son, Gary.

Survivors include sister Barbara Corriher; daughter Cindy Chambers (Art); son Chris Wagner (Robin); grandchildren: Scott Chambers, Melissa Chambers, Jennifer Coren (Charles), Conor Chambers, Caylie Chambers; great grandchildren: Alyssa Chambers, Hunter Coren; and nieces and nephews including Jan Corriher Smith and Todd Corriher, both of Rowan County.

The family wishes to thank Sheila Cannon and her late husband Homer, who cared for Kat like she was family, and to the dedicated, wonderful staff at The Laurels.

Funeral services will be held at Salem Lutheran Church, where she was a member, on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. Visitation will be at 3 p.m.
