Larry Frederick Overcash, 91, of Maiden, N.C., passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Liberty Lane Hospice House on the campus of the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. His beloved wife of 44 years, Betty Wilson Overcash, had passed away only 20 days earlier.
Larry was born January 23, 1933, in Gaston County to the late James Burette Overcash and Bertha Travis Overcash. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his eight siblings: Frank, Bill, Bob, Violet, Pansy, Marcella, Mildred, and Thelma.
A veteran of the Korean War, completing a tour of duty in Korea and serving at a base in Goose Bay Labrador, Larry’s professional career was spent in corporate food service and hospitality. He enjoyed automobile and home repair, home building, and watching old western television shows.
Larry was survived by his daughters: Sherri Cook of Conover, Carol Johnson and husband Gary of Lincolnton, Sheilah Burghardt and husband Paul of Newton, and Donna Hammonds and husband Jeff of Conway. He was survived by his sons: Shawn Overcash and wife Lisa of Columbus, NC, and Bobby Riley of Newton.
The surviving grandchildren are: Brook (James), Todd, Kaleigh (Brandon), Marlee (William), Lauren (David), Brittany (Justin), Kelly (Caleb), Rachel (David), Sarah (Austin), Logan, Riley (Cody), Robbie, Gabbie and Karina
The surviving great-grandchildren are: Wesley (Sherri), Grace, J.T., Brylee, Hazel, William, Mason, Adeline, Aurora, Mavea and Bailey.
A private, family service will be held at a date to be determined at Fellowship Baptist Church in Maiden, NC, where Larry and Betty will rest in peace together.
In lieu of flowers or other support, the family requests consideration of a donation to Liberty Lanes Hospice House, whose amazing staff provided Larry with a restful and peaceful journey to the next life.
