Lewis Wayne Vernon, 82, formerly of Henderson and McAdenville, NC went home to be with his Lord on March 21, 2026. His wife, Judy Kay Hicks Vernon, 79, had preceded him in death on Dec 9, 2024, but per the wishes of their children, Torka Whitworth (Jon) and Jeff Vernon (Fabienne), Wayne and Judy's remains will be interred together at Salisbury National Cemetery Annex on April 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
Wayne was a 20 year veteran of the US Army, having served in Thailand during the war in Vietnam; in Germany; and in NJ, TX & MD.
Judy worked in various textile mills in Belmont, Mt Holly and McAdenville.
Both were very active in the Church of God Servicemens' Centers wherever they were stationed as well as several local Churches of God in TX and NC. Their primary mission was to minister to pastors and to help with church plants.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Shaw and Monroe Thompson as well as his brother-in-law, Jerry Frizzell. He is survived by his sisters Vickie Frizzell; Karon Divenny (Aaron) and Sharon Preslar (Mike); as well as his brothers Steve (Linda); Anthony; and John (Vicky) Thompson as well as many nieces and nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Marie Coffin and John Hicks as well as her sisters Dolly Moody; and Jeanie Hunter as well as her brothers, J.C.; Bob; Norman and Tommy Hicks, however, many nieces and nephews are left to cherish her memory.
In addition to their children, Torka and Jeff, Wayne & Judy are also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Although they are gone from our presence, Wayne and Judy remain in our hearts and memories and we look forward to the day we will see them again in Glory.
Goodbye for now, Mom & Dad. We'll see you later.
