Luther “Tom” Carl Tomlin, 75, of Statesville passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Iredell County on September 1, 1946, he was the son of the late Virginia Rose Ballard and Charles Humphrey Tomlin.
Mr. Tomlin was a veteran of the US Air Force. He taught karate and was a second degree black belt. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved animals, especially his special service dog, “Teal”. Mr. Tomlin had a love for country music and enjoyed going to the beach and mountains. He had a special love for people and made them feel like family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Nelson Tomlin and sisters, Reda Taylor and Charlene Solano.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Linda Gerlinger Tomlin of Statesville; son, Edward Charles Tomlin of Statesville; daughters, Tammy Broadway (Clay) of Statesville, Jennifer Babcock (Bruce) of Malta, MT, and Katie Wingler (Brian) of Statesville; grandchildren, Angela Broadway, Rachael Broadway, Michael Broadway, Robbie Waugh, and Khloe Waugh; special niece, Selina Brassill.
Service: 1:00 PM Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144 with the Rev. Ken Reynolds officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
