Margaret Langston Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Margaret Langston who died at Novant Medical Center on Thursday, January 2nd at the age of 83 with her daughter Ruth, son in law Lane and her two grandchildren, Brennan and Katherine by her side.

Margaret was known for her laughter and quiet sense of humor. Her and her daughter were very close, able to read each other's minds at times and having great memories together.

Margaret Langston was born May 26, 1942 in Springfield, Massachusetts. daughter of Harold Brennan and Rose Babachicos. Harold was an immigrant from Ireland who came to the US as a young boy.  Rose was from a large Greek family.

Margaret married Malcolm Langston who was stationed in the air force in Hartford, Conn.

Malcolm and Margaret were married for over 50 years. They had two kids Mark who passed away at a young age and Ruth. Malcolm was from eastern NC and in 1970 they moved to south Florida for better opportunities and to escape the cold weather.

Margaret graduated from Westfield State College and taught English in Jr High in both Christian and Public schools. She was a great editor and would help the grandkids with papers. Lane sometimes asked her to edit documents he was working on at his job.

Her husband Malcolm was extremely outgoing and was the life of the party. Margaret was more subdued and kept him grounded. Their faith was always important to both of them. They both were always active in their church.

Malcolm passed away in 2013.

Margaret was an avid sports fan. Her favorite team was the Boston Red Sox, she knew all the players and had the MLB season pass to keep up with the team. The family moved to South Florida just before the Dolphins 1972 season, so she became a big Dolphins fan too. After Lane came into the family she became an App State fan and she and Malcolm traveled to Michigan to see App State's big upset against Michigan.

In addition to sports, she was an avid reader and played card games or any game that was being played at the moment. She also sang in the church choir and taught a Bible study class. She also would send birthday cards and get well cards to Sunday School classmates.

Family was extremely important to her. She loved her two grandkids. Brennan is named after her and she loved to watch him play basketball. She was also always happy when he would come down from App State for a visit when she still lived in Lenoir. She also loved to watch Katherine dance and cheer in HS. She once took Brennan and Katherine on a trip to Texas to see extended family which brought with it funny memories and good times.

Two years ago when Margaret's health had begun to decline she moved in with Lane and Ruth. She told everyone Ruth was her best friend and she didn't want to be anywhere else. Ruth retired from her job as a school counselor and did a wonderful job of taking care of her.

In the past few months her health further declined and she often told Ruth and Lane she was ready to go home and be with the Lord and to see Malcolm again.

Margaret is predeceased by her son, Mark Harold. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Ruth, her devoted son-in-law, Lane, and her two Grandkids, Brennan and Katherine.
