Marvin Ray Yost, 98, of Salisbury passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at his residence.
He was born on December 7, 1923 in Rowan County to parents Archie C. Yost and Cora Safrit Yost.
Mr. Yost was married to Mary Pinkston Yost on August 3, 1946. He was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School and Salisbury Business College. A veteran of World War II, he was employed by Salisbury Fire Department from May 17, 1947 until his retirement on March 15, 1984, 37 ½ years of service. He served as Assistant Fire Chief for 22 years and a Fire Service Instructor for Rowan-Cabarrus College. Mr. Yost was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pinkston Yost, on October 22, 2008; son, Dennis Ray Yost; brothers, Elmer Eugene Yost, Archie C. Yost, Jr., Carlee Yost, Gaither Virgil Yost, Fred Vernon Yost; son-in-law, Michael K. Lane.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Mary Darlene “Dolly” Canup and Belinda Yost Lane (late husband Mike), both of Salisbury; grandchildren, Dennis Sean Yost (Barbara) of Florida, Heather Yost Strickland (Jim) of China Grove, Tara Brooke Lane of Salisbury, and Colton Michael Lane of Salisbury; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Sean Yost (Emily) of Florida, Lydia Yost Sasscer (Josh) of Florida, Josiah Michael Yost of Florida, Benjamin James Strickland of New Mexico, Ethan James Strickland of New Mexico, Levi James Strickland of Tahoe, California; great-great-grandchildren, Nora Rose Yost and Finely Ann Yost, both of Florida. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, special friend Carol Bruno, and the congregation of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Visitation: 11:30 AM-1:00 PM Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Haven Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 207 W Harrison St, Salisbury, NC 28144.
Service: 1:30 PM Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Haven Lutheran Church with Father Cathie Caimano and Bishop Sean Yost officiating. Firefighter honors will be conducted by the Salisbury Fire Department. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. The family will be gathered at Mr. Yost’s residence at other times.
