Matthew Kenyon Payne

Matthew Kenyon Payne, 87, the beloved father, brother, grandfather, and uncle entered into his eternal life on January 17, 2023 at 10:45 PM at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House with his family by his side.

Born April 22, 1935 to Ernest Payne and Bessie Meroney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Glenda Payne, brother, Richard and sister, Barbara.

He is survived by his brother Jimmy Payne (Magaly) and his loving children Theresa Carlton (Ricky), Kenny Payne (Cathy), Danny Payne (Jordana) and stepson Scott Crisco (Patty); 12 grandchildren, Kenny, Kim, Chandee, Casey, Stefanie, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Jax, Kristina, Nicholas, and Hunter; eight great-grandchildren, Kenyon, Kenna, Leah, Joshua, Savannah, Anthony, Mackenzie, and Annabella.

Matt will be missed by many friends and acquaintances. Many will remember the fun times at his place on Lake Norman, lots of cookouts, boat rides, and swimming or just sitting on the pier on the swings talking.

He will be remembered working for Duke Power, Matthew Payne Construction Company specializing in building drive-in movie theaters, then working at Central Piedmont Community College for 21 years in the Services Department. He was an Eagle Scout and was in the Air National Guard for 15 years. He could work on or fix and build anything. He was most happy always having some kind of project going on. He was loved and will be missed by all.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
