Michael Murphy Obituary

Michael Allan Murphy, of Salisbury NC, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the age of 74. He was born in Brookline, MA on August 3, 1949. He was the son of Cornelius Murphy and Mavis Goddard.

Known to his family and friends as Mike or “Murf”, he was a self trained mechanic and later machine designer. He had a deep love for creating radically custom cars. His favorite being his ‘42 Buick Special, which he spent 4 years creating.

Mike had several jobs over the years, but finally settled at FootJoy as their Machine Designer/Director of Machine Maintenance. He loved his job and was employed with them for 28 years before retiring.

Mike also had a deep love for family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand with a car or home issue, there was nothing he could not build or fix. In his younger years, he loved snowmobiling with his best friend, Norm or riding his motorcycle. He loved the holidays with family and spending time at his camp in Pittsburgh, NH., traveling and family vacations. He had a dry sense of humor and loved to tease those he loved. He never spared a moment and was up every day at the crack of dawn and typically in the garage tinkering on something all day. He brought his wife, Alyssa, a cup of coffee and smile in bed every single morning for their entire marriage.

He is predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Mavis; sisters Pam, Maggie and Elaine; and brother Bill.

He is survived by his forever loving wife, Alyssa; sister Elizabeth Noronha and husband Arthur of Taunton, MA; children; Brian Murphy and his wife Susan of Pawtucket, RI; daughter Dawn Murphy of Seekonk; Richard Waning of Salisbury, NC; Breanna Waning of Salisbury NC. Nephews Michael and Phillip Noronha; niece Sasha Horton. Six grandchildren Austin, Felecia, Mariah, Lily, Liam and Cameron. Great niece Maggie Horton.

Not a day will go by that he won’t be loved, remembered and sorely missed. A life well lived.

The family would also like to thank his Medical Team, Dr. Ashten Crosby, Dr. Sheila Smalls-Stokes, Eric Hahn P.A. and Dr. Telly Meadows. His Adoration Home Health nurses Kathryn and Rachael and his CNA Sarah. All of whom were so wonderful and caring and gave us the opportunity to keep him at home. Thank you.
